Before the pandemic, the Ho`olaule`a was a public outdoor event, hosted by local Kaʻū nonprofit Hana Laulima Lāhui O Kaʻū. It was canceled last March due to the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 worldwide.

This year, as Hawaiʻi continues to navigate the pandemic, organizers decided to hold a virtual sampling of the planned Hoʻolauleʻa online to allow viewers to participate in the experience while staying safe.

The virtual Hoʻolauleʻa shares the vision and purpose of Hana Laulima Lāhui O Kaʻū as well as entertainment and native Hawaiian cultural demonstrations.

Virtual seats opened early at 8:30 a.m. on Prince Kuhio Day. The Ho`olaule`a began at 9 am and ended at Noon Hawaii Time.  Attendees joined from Hawaii and the Mainland.

Check out The Ka'ū Calendar blog this week for more activities happening in Ka`u.
